Molokai: Poem and Photos by Talia Brayton

Molokai is where I want to be

When I get to travel overseas

Fresh air and gentle breeze

Immediately I am at ease

Molokai is where I want to be

I am filled with serenity at the beach

Ocean mist spraying my face

If I could go anywhere, this the place

Molokai is where I want to be

Peacefully looking out to sea

Palm trees swaying in the wind

Seeing faces holding grins

Molokai is where I want to be

Smells of flowers and seaweed

Molokai is where I want to be

But once I’m there, I may not leave

Of course there are reasons not to go

You never get to see the snow

Frost does not touch this place

You would never compete in a skiing race

Oh my! There are some giant bugs

Underneath my mats, and rugs

Oh dear! There is a big, fat rat

What I need now is a hungry cat

Hi Talia! what a beautiful poem. It really shows how much you love this island and takes the reader there along side you. I love how you shared what you’d miss from home if you did stay. You missed saying family;-) Anyway it also made me think of our trip together there when you were just 4! keep writing poetry and taking pictures. Love you dearly niece!
